frequently asked questions

This section contains answers to some of the questions you may have as a potential participant.

What computer facilities will I need?

The basic requirements to learn online are access to:

  • a computer with a CD-ROM drive and a modem
  • a connection to the Internet
  • a word-processing program
  • an Internet browser
  • a virus scanner
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader software.

Materials are also available on CD-ROM, for which you will need a CD-ROM drive. It is also beneficial to have access to a printer.

Each person may have a different hardware/software set-up. Often the hardware/software can be downloaded from the Internet.

For more detailed information in this area refer to ‘What you need: technical requirements' (cross link to section pls)

Do I need to be online at a specific time and day to participate?

No, there is no mandatory online participation in this learning program that requires you to be online at a certain time. You can go online anytime it suits you. Program mentors and other operators may be online at a specific time and you may choose to organise a time with them to meet and communicate online.

Are there times I need to participate in a workshop?

It is strongly recommended that you attend at least one workshop being offered in your area. Workshop fees are included in the online learning fees and will offer participants the opportunity to meet face-to-face for orientation and networking. A workshop schedule has been posted online and will also be widely advertised through tourism industry channels. You will need to consult the workshop schedule for a workshop schedule near you. Workshop places will be limited and early workshop registration is recommended.

How much does online learning cost?

There is a one-off fee of $140 for the learning program, which includes attendance at a familiarisation workshop and access to CD-ROM and online learning materials. The fee does not include any accreditation costs. However, operators that apply for and achieve (or renew) accreditation as part of the pilot program are eligible for a range of incentives and financial benefits from their local tourism office and the Better Business Tourism Accreditation Program.
